A few hours after the official opening of the 2014 ski season 180 skiers and snowboarders had to be rescued from a crippled chairlift at the Argentinian ski resort of Catedral Alta Patagonia. A mechanical failure, that caused a number of chairlifts to loosen and smash into one another, has been blamed for the incident. Luckily no injuries have been reported.

The press officer of Catedral Alta Patagonia, Paula Gómez said that “it was just a technical malfunction that is common, and people who were in four chairs by a vertical rescue were evacuated. ”

This is not the first time Catedral Alta Patagonia has had a chairlift accident. Around this time last year a chairlift derailed causing injuries to eight guests.
