DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL – The white stuff falling from the sky is leading to more green for Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) resorts, as skier visits for January and February were up significantly compared to last year.
Skier visits to the 21 resorts that are members of the industry association — all of the resorts in the state except for the four owned by Vail Resorts Inc. — rose 8.6 percent over the past two months.
Lodging was also up slightly. Occupancy at Colorado resort properties jumped 2.9 percent year-over-year during that period, according to figures provided to CSCUSA in partnership with DestiMetrics.
Several factors contributed to the boost, including enjoyable winter temperatures, positive economic news and excitement for winter sports generated by the Olympic Games, said Melanie Mills, CSCUSA president and CEO.
But the biggest reason, she said, was the great conditions in the mountains created by increased snowfall.
