Warm temperatures are causing problems with some of the Olympic venues in Sochi, Russia. With all of the preparation for the games there is plenty of snow, but it is thick and slushy and is affecting some of the athletes performance.
Following Shaun White’s failed attempted at winning yet another gold medal he said that the pipe was all “sand and mush.”
In fact, part of the event was moved to later in the day, when the temperatures are colder, to preserve the pipe. Salt was used to keep it hard and chemicals were also used on the course to preserve it.
American downhill ski racer, Bode Miller, said that the softer snow meant it was harder for him to gain speed.
“There’s no difficult parts any more, this whole course now is manageable for anybody,” said Bode Miller.
At the end of the woman’s downhill race today temperature reached +14c (57.2 F).
To make matters worse, It is set to get warmer with no sign of a cold snap in sight.
