Powder Alert - The Sierra Is Going To Get Blasted!

POWDER ALERT- THE SIERRA IS GOING TO GET BLASTED! MODERATE SNOW FOR THE ROCKIES THROUGH SUNDAY

2 storm systems will be impacting a broad range of the Sierra over the next 4 days. The first will arrive Wednesday night and Thursday bringing 10-16 inches of snowfall to many areas from Lake Tahoe and south through the Mammoth basin. Snow density will start out high (7,000 foot level) and drop to lake level by Thursday morning. Some spots might see higher amounts. Time to grab the fat boards with dense snow beneath some medium fluff. It will be snowing around the lake Thursday morning! The 2nd system will arrive Friday AM with a path further south. All areas of Central and southern California will receive snowfall with the highest amounts found fromMammoth to Big Bear. Significant amounts are likely. Areas to the north around the Lake might see another 6-10 inches with lingering snow into the weekend.

The Wasatch will grab moisture Thursday mostly in the afternoon and evening. Areas favored by SW flow such as Brighton, Solitude will grab 5-9 inches where Alta, Snowbird will see slightly less. Park City area mountains will also see snowfall (3-5). Colorado will see leftovers during the night Thursday and AM on Friday from Durango through the I-70 corridor. Amounts will be in the higher near Silverton, Crested Butte, with SW flow (4-7) and less along the I-70 corridor (3-5). Moisture rapidly decreases Friday morning.

Storm #2- Friday-Sunday (Tetons, Wasatch, NM, AZ)- Broad system to impact many areas of the West!

Areas from Wolf Creek, Silverton and Crested Butte will see significant snowfall peaking Friday night and Saturday (7-14) Flagstaff will see a rain/snow mix until late Friday when all snow drops moderate amounts to the highest peaks. New Mexico will see moderate snowfall in the San Juan’s Saturday peaking in the afternoon and evening (Might be heavy through Sunday AM). Taos anyone?

The Wasatch will see periods of heavy snow Friday night favoring resorts from Sundance to Park City under South- SW flow. The Cottonwoods should see decent amounts with Brighton andSolitude favored (9-15). SW flow extends as far north as the Tetons where moderate snowfall will set up Thursday night through Sunday! Colder air and moisture could enhance snowfall over Teton Pass Saturday afternoon. The only wildcard is wind direction where southerly flow could stent moisture from reaching the Jackson Valley. Models show winds shifts to the West and SW later Saturday which will enhance snowfall near the Pass (Weekend sees the highest amounts)

Colorado Front Range resorts will get most action later Saturday and Sunday when winds veer to the West. This will increase light to moderate snowfall along I-70 from Beaver Creek to Breckenridge. We favor Summit County later in the weekend. Hard to nail down amounts but early guess is 4-7 or more.
