POWDER ALERT- CASCADES, COLD SMOKE ALERT- MONTANA

Powderchasers.com

Over 10 feet of snow has fallen in the past 10 days at Stevens Pass Ski area!  That has brought them from a significantly dry spell, low snowpack to near normal in just the past week!   I can testify from chasing this week from Crystal Mountain to Stevens that the snow is deep and fairly light by Cascade standards. Stevens Pass and areas along I-90 will benefit most over the next several days as cold air and convergence zones set up late Saturday through Monday.  All areas will see moderate snow (5-10) primarily Sunday. Here is a video shot at Crystal Mountain by Powderchaser Steve over the past several days.

Models are hitting a bullseye over Montana beginning Saturday PM and continuing through Monday.  Deep moisture, very cold temperatures will create ideal conditions for cold smoke through a wide area of the State.  Highest amounts will be from the mountains north of Missoula through Bozeman, Big Sky, and Bridger Bowl.  Amounts will range from 12-18 inches.  Chase time will be late Saturday into Monday.

The Tetons will stay in a moist westerly flow Saturday through Sunday (4-8 inches) and be on the southern fringe of the heavy moisture in Montana on Monday.  The Wasatch and Colorado Rockies appear to be in a dry slot with the exception of perhaps Steamboat on Tuesday!  Some snow might be possible over I-70 late.

Extended pattern change:    Models are advertising some large storms likely for the Sierra by next Thursday and again next weekend.  These storms will weaken some and eventually move over the Wasatch.  My eyes are watching the Wasatch for next Friday.
