7 DAY POWDER FORECAST – POWDER WATCHES ISSUED FOR LATE THIS WEEK!
Powderchasers.com
SYNOPSIS : Significant snowfall occurred in Colorado last week with up to 36 inches at Beaver Creek and generally 2 feet or more at most resorts including Silverton Mountain who nabbed deep dumps on Friday and Saturday (3 feet storm totals). The Sierra finally jumped on Powderchasers radar with up to 2 feet at many resorts over the past 7 days (Kirkwood logged 30 inches). The week ahead will bring several weak to moderate storms (Northern Rockies) turning heavier later in the period. Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely for the Arizona Mountains as well as the 4 corners by next weekend and a hint of a deep storm in the Sierra and Cascades by next Saturday and Sunday.Southern New England will see a good dump early Wednesday and again next weekend!
DETAILS: Light snow will be falling over central and northern Idaho today (2-4) as well as southern Colorado. Snowfall will increase over the Tetons and Wasatch tonight with very cold temperatures and light densities (5-9 inches likely). Southern Montana will pick up moderate snow (4-8) by late tonight especially north of Yellowstone National Park. Colorado will see it’s heaviest snow over the central and northern mountains on Tuesday. Heaviest amounts in Colorado might fall from Vail to Steamboatincluding all of Summit County and the Front Range near Denver. Low end Powder Alert Criteria possible by Tuesday PM (8-10 inches). Light snow will continue over Colorado into Wednesday.
Stronger systems will impact the West by Thursday!
Powder will be falling over the San Juan’s, Flagstaff AZ, and Southern Wasatch, in the Thursday/Friday time-frame. The Sierra should see light to possible moderate snow. Higher amounts likely to the East over the Ruby Mountains of Nevada.
DEEP WEEKEND? Sierra and Cascades dumps?
Models currently show heavy snow finally returning to the Cascades by Saturday! Temps this week will be near Freezing in the Super Bowl Champs City of Seattle. Therefore, snowfall is likely in the City by Saturday (Dry fluff in the mountains). That storm migrates into the northern Sierra by Sunday (Might be a significant event) and into the Wasatch by next Monday. Models this far out are going to change as we get closer. My confidence of some significant events is high. Powder Alerts will be hoisted!
