Heavy snow and wind have brought deep conditions to many resorts in the Rockies (24 inch storm total for Snowbird, 16 for Vail, 12 for Powder Mountain, and 17 inches for Jackson Hole) over the past 48 hours.

EPIC ALERT- Jackson Hole will reach 200 inches YTD by Sunday afternoon!

Heavy dumpage beginning this evening for the Cascades, interior Washington, Montana, Idaho, north central Colorado, and the Tetons. As of 3PM it was snowing heavily in the North Cascades with 11 inches at Baker since the lifts closed yesterday (also dumping at Stevens). Another 12-15 inches is likely to fall in the central and north Cascades tonight with 3,000 foot snow levels. Good quality snow over the Cascades will turn more dense on Sunday afternoon with warming temperatures. Snow continues in the Cascades Sunday evening with some mix of rain at the lowest elevations. Epic potential most favorable for Sunday morning!

The Tetons are seeing moderate snowfall this afternoon. This will increase tonight through most of Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. The Tetons and Wasatch will likely have storm totals in the18-28 inch range by late Monday. Winds will be an issue through Sunday evening decreasing on Monday (Gusts to 50-55 W-NW). The big question is Tram Operations for Snowbird and Jackson. My early guess is that Jackson will be intermittently running (Sublette closed) and Snowbird delayed. You might consider Solitude, Brighton, Canyons, Snowbasin, Powder, and other resorts that offer more choices. Some hint of slight decrease of winds late. Monday will bear deepness on what remained closed on Sunday as cold NW flow continues into Monday evening.

My early picks are for the Cascades, Central and Northern Idaho, Tetons or Wasatch on Sunday. North/Central Colorado late AM Sunday through Monday (Aspen, Vail, Steamboat, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge). Storm skiing will be top notch in all areas on Sunday. Freshest and driest densities! The North San Juan’s including Telluride will see heavier snowfall later on Sunday (5-10).

The models show a secondary low forming over the Rockies Sunday night into so areas that do well with NW flow (Wasatch, I-70, Steamboat) will likely see another great day on Monday! Early guess is another 5-10 in the Wasatch and along and north of I-70 in Colorado.
