Heavy snowfall is tapering off in New England where 12 inches fell in many areas providing a powder day late Sunday into Monday. The next alert is for the West where cold air and moderate moisture is expected in the Northern Mountains over the next several days.
Two rounds of snowfall expected for all of Western Montana, Eastern Idaho, and the Tetonsbeginning late tonight and continuing through Wednesday AM. Light snow will break out in most of Montana late tonight (Heavier north of Missoula) and work south during the morning Tuesday (3-6 Northern MT mountains, 2-4 southern areas). A reinforcing shot of colder air will intensify snowfall late Tuesday into early Wednesday (Additional 3-7 inches in most areas). Storm totals by Wednesday will be 5-9 inches with some higher amounts likely in the north (6-12).
The Tetons should see continuous light snowfall under Westerly flow from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning. Expect 5-9 inches in many areas. Jackson Hole reaps rewards with westerly winds so surprise amounts are possible. Highest intensity snowfall will be Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday.
Northern and Central Colorado get leftovers (Less moisture) but reaps the rewards of higher elevation, orographics (Cold air at higher altitudes) so will be in the Powder Alert zones primarily Tuesday night through Wednesday. Westerly flow favors Steamboat and Beaver Creek! While not a very moist system, cold air aloft under Westerly Flow can create some surprise amounts. I am going with 4-8 inches for Wednesday from I-70 North. Expect higher amounts if orographics set up over Rabbit Ears or Vail Pass. Beaver Creek stands to outbid the others if not Steamboat.

Tuesday PM– Bridger Bowl and Big Sky (Snow intensity increases after 2PM)
Wednesday– Tetons, Southern Montana, Steamboat, Beaver Creek (Snowing).
Thursday- Snow lingers in central Colorado (Monarch).
Long Term? A fairly warm system moves into the Cascades late Thursday and blasts acrossnorthern Idaho Friday and Montana and Wyoming by Saturday (Looks like a quick mover). Higher amounts are likely over interior BC (Fernie, Revy) especially Thursday/Friday. Coloradomight reap some rewards late Saturday/Sunday (I-70 North). More details to follow. New England sees another round of snow favoring coastal areas Thursday night/Friday (Heaviest from Wachusett MA, CT, and Eastern Maine resorts).
