POWDER ALERT-CASCADES FRIDAY/WASATCH SATURDAY

Heavy snowfall hammered the northern Wasatch today with over 17 inches at Snowbasin, and generally 7-10 inches in the Park City/Canyons and Deer Valley resorts. Big cottonwood (Brighton and Solitude) nabbed 12-14 inches while Alta and Snowbird slightly less (9-11).  Light snow will continue until 8pm tonight before tapering.

The Next system is approaching the Cascades late tonight and Friday with snow levels at nearly sea level.  DEEP low density POWDER will be falling over the Cascades from Friday morning through Friday evening (11-15).

The Good: Deep!  The Bad: Temperatures warm significantly in the Cascades Friday afternoon with densities increasing late. Some rain is possible from I-90 south late Friday.  Most areas north of I-90 will most likely turn to wet snow by 3PM. SKI IT EARLY before it turns to cement.  Mountains around Spokane will be deeper to the south with less energy near Schwietzer (3-7).  My picks in the Cascades for the deepest might be Alpental, Crystal, or Stevens.

Idaho will fare well late Friday through the evening with bullesyes near the Oregon border (5-11) and Southeast towards Utah. Central Idaho might be in the 3-6 inch range (Sun Valley).

The Wasatch will start to see snowfall by 5AM Saturday. Moderate to heavy snow will be found during the day North of Interstate 80 (Powder Mountain,  Snowbasin) with 5-10 inches before 5PM. The southern and central Wasatch near Salt Lake will see the heaviest snow fall between 10Am and 9PM (5-10) under NW flow (Canyons, Solitude, Brighton, Alta, Snowbird).

Colorado gets weak leftovers on Sunday with areas from Steamboat, to I-70 in the 2-5 inch range.
