7 DAY POWDER FORECAST

Powderchasers.com

23 inches fell at Sundance in UT over the past 24 hours and deep dumps were also reported in southern Colorado.  Both Altaand Steamboat hit 100 inches YTD.

The Sierra received much needed snowfall last Friday with up to 2 feet atKirkwood and Sugar Bowl.   Sugar Bowl actually had some base from previous storms making for some fantastic conditions. The Cascades had rain early last week migrating to all snow late in the storm bringing. 1-2 feet to areas likeCrystal and Stevens Pass.

The week ahead does not have us chasing. light snow will impact Wyoming and southern Montana Monday.  A more energetic wave will move across that area on Tuesday ((2-5).  The Pacific Northwest migrates to a showery pattern midweek, light to occasional upper elevation snow before a stronger system arrives late in the week.  This system may be accompanied by colder air that drops snow levels somewhat in BC and the Cascades by Saturday.  The Rockies   begin to see the leftovers late next weekend.  The long term trend for the next 14 days shows additional waves over the NW and northern Rockies.

Some have asked where the best conditions can be found?  We are off to a great start in the Rockies from Montana, Wyoming, central Idaho, to all of Colorado, and northern New Mexico.  Utah has its best snow at upper elevation resorts like Alta, Brighton, Solitude, and perhaps Deer Valley.  Sundance near Provo is also in good shape after it’s recent 2 foot dump.   The Sierra has been weak, however recent snow has put them back on the radar especially Sugar Bowl who with an early season dump has a respectable foundation. BC has fared well for early season especially the interior (Fernie is deep). Upper elevations at Whistler are also faring well.

PRE January is always a risk.   Overall many of the areas mentioned above are above normal in snowpack.  Enjoy the week ahead.  Once we see some deep will post on powderchasers.com
