Weather Map of United States West

Very active week for many resorts in the West.  Jackson Hole hit 50 inches of snowfall YTD, Steamboat logged over 17 inches in the past few days, Taos gets dumped on, and Aspen, Vail, Alta, Snowbird picked up nearly a foot of new snow. The areas around Park City, Canyons, and Deer Valley logged 4-8 inches. Solitude who also saw good snowfall announced an opening for this Friday!   The Cascades focused over Stevens Pass where a cold front set up moist convergence for all resorts along and north of I-90 last weekend (9-17 inches).   BC, Interior Canada, Idaho, and Montana all reaped rewards!

The models continue to pump moisture into the Northwest for the extended period with snow levels rising early this week bringing rainfall to the bases and a mix at upper elevations. Snow levels will drop later in the week with a strong frontThursday/Friday. Most of this moisture takes aim at northern Idaho and weakens as it heads East in the northern Rockies.  The Cascades will see a trend for a mix of brief clearing spells and light snowfall or showers through the next 7 days.   Fernie, Revy, and others in the interior of Canada will also see rewards.

What about the Sierra?

Models have trended a storm for early next week!  Today’s trends still show a cold front coming in by Tuesday but my confidence is lower on amounts.  I am still hopeful for some pattern changes next week but confidence is higher for the middle of the month. It is only November 6th so don’t panic!  The Sierra is one place that can go from little snowfall to over 70 inches in 5 days. I was at Squaw 2 years ago for a 30inch dump since the lifts closed the previous day. Your time will come!
