POWDER ALERT- TETONS, CENTRAL IDAHO, 4 CORNERS- PLUS THE SIERRA IS GETTING SNOW!

Lots of active weather affecting the West with the Sierra finally seeing light to moderate snowfall.  As of 6AM this morning Kirkwood has picked up 5 inches with light snow continuing to fall above 7,000 feet.  A brief break this morning will be followed by colder temps and more snowfall tonight into Thursday. Amounts will be in the 4-6 inch range in most of the northern Sierra late today and tonight.  That could edge the scales towards 8-12 inch snow totals in the 48 hour period.

All action moves into the Tetons, andcentral Idaho tonight as a stalled cold front should bring 7-9 inches of snow to many areas by Thursday morning. The only wildcard is Northeast wind direction which is not as favorable for the Tetons but plenty of moisture should compensate.    The Wasatch is on the southern edge of the deepest moisture but enough will fall to freshen up the slopes at Snowbird where opening happens today!  Expect 1-3 inches today, 2-4 tonight, and perhaps 1-3 on Thursday.

HEAVY POWDER FOR THE 4 CORNERS LATE THIS WEEK

The largest headlines might be taken late this week as a strong and moist system moves into Arizona, New Mexico, Southern Utah, and Colorado by Friday morning.   Light to moderate snow will fall over the Colorado San Juan’s tonight and Thursday morning  (4-9).  Heavy snow will peak Friday morning for several hours bringing an additional 7-12 inches to the San Juan’s. The only wildcard for Friday is that the winds veer North/NE which could limit amounts some over Wolf Creek but enhance totals over Telluride.   Arizona will see heavy rainfall through much of the State and light to moderate snow is expected near Flagstaff.
