The Northwest is in for it’s first cold storm of the season with snow levels plunging to 2500 feet by Saturday night.  Moderate snow will fall in the Cascades this weekend (Late AM Saturday-Sunday).  Additional light to moderate snow will fall early next week and an even larger system will likely be over the Cascades by next weekend.  Expect 7-12 inches this weekend at upper elevations and 5-8 at pass levels.  Northern areas of the Cascades are favored as well as southern BC. Snow will be falling along all the mountain pass highways of the Northwest.

ROCKIES:   Most of Idaho, Western Montana, Tetons and the Wasatch will reap some rewards late Saturday into Monday (Wasatch – Sunday-Monday).  My confidence is highest for Northern Idaho (Schwietzer), and the Tetons (Might get deep). The cold front will move quickly through Utah Sunday morning and should bring 4-7 inches to most resorts including The Canyons, Park City, Solitude, Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, and the Cottonwoods.  Additional light snowfall is likely in Utah again Monday night into Tuesday!  Tuesday might be deeper in the Wasatch than Sunday.

Colorodo models show light moisture Monday.  The interesting twist to the models is that it is possible that a moisture tap sets up from the south bringing a decent dump to the San Juans and eventually over I-70 by Tuesday (Wildcard). Future statements will be issued.  Confidence is building.

EXTENDED POW FORECAST

A large low pressure system might develop over the Cascades next weekend and drop south through the Rockies in the 7-10 day period.   The long range models hint at some pattern changes that will bring snowfall back to the Sierra.
