The largest ski area in the Tyrol, Stubaier Gletscher, will be kicking off the 2013-2014 ski season this Friday – September 20, 2013. Skiers and riders who show up for opening day will be treated to 15cm (6″) of fresh powder that has fallen on the resort over the week. 

The ski area is located in the Stubai Alps , northeast of the Stubai wild peak (3,341 m). Access is through the Stubai Valley .

The Stubai glacier ski area with 700 hectares is the largest glacier in Austria. It is situated at an altitude 1750-3210 meters. Lifts are on the glaciers Daunferner , Eisjochferner , Gaiskarferner , Fernauferner and Windachferner .

In summer, the area is used as a high alpine hiking. Until 2002, you could be on the glaciated area skiing and in summer. Since 2003, the Stubai Glacier is only from October to June as snow.

In the area of the Stubai Glacier is located at 3,150 meters with built Jochdohle the highest mountain restaurant in Austria. The summit platform TOP OF TYROL is located at 3,210 meters above sea level. – wikipedia.org
