This weekend was the 80th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the largest and most prestigious endurance car race in the world.

Early on in the race, a Toyota prototype racer and a Ferrari GT car connected at the end of the Mulsanne Straight sending the Toyota flipping into the air and causing one of the most spectacular crashes in recent race history. Somehow the car miraculously landed on it’s wheels before slamming into the barriers, leaving the driver Anthony Davidson with a broken back. This had to have been the best case scenario for this situation, this guy probably would have died if the car landed on it’s roof.

If this crash seems familiar, maybe you remember the Mercedes Prototypes that flipped at the 1999 24 Hours race on the same section of track…this one is really scary!
