After a week and a half of splitting trail breaking duties, Lee and I gained a traveling companion. Miles Clark visited us briefly in Japan, and promised us if he could make it happen he would be in Alaska. He joined our noble quest for a couple weeks in mid April.

Miles did well for 48 hours of skiing and traveling, and nearly achieved skin track enlightenment on day one. He skied Squaw Wednesday, got on a plane that evening, landed in Valdez at 8 AM, and was hiking two hours later. Even before the brief northern lights show after dinner, it was a good start to the trip. Some blame good timing and luck, others say he’s that awesome.
