Day 1 of of the Nike Lowers Pro ASP surfing competition went down a few days ago at San Clemente, CA.

The waves were smallerish (4 foot with some bigger sets) but had perfect skate ramp form.  When the waves are like this, this event becomes a freeride event.  Aerials become the name of the game and Day 1 didn’t disappoint.

“The first day the Nike Lowers Pro bore witness to picture-perfect conditions as overhead sets swept through the lineup, offering competitors an idyllic venue to display their own breed of progressive surfing. Not without a few major upsets, Day 1 saw past champion Miguel Pupo and WT star Julian Wilson falter. On the flip side, surfers like Brazil’s Gabriel Medina, Hawaii’s John Florence, and San Clemente’s own Tanner Gudauakas put on phenomenal performances to take their respective heat wins.” – Nike

Day 2 and 3 highlights coming the next two days…
