Hopes were high this morning.  A very important tree near my house told me that there was bountiful epic snow.  13”-18” of new snow looked unreal on paper.

Reality was a touch off from tree’s fabled epic snow.  The snow was great in spots and pure ice in spots.  You could generally tell which was which, except when you couldn’t.

SQUAW CONDITIONS TODAY:

– 13”-18” of new snow

– High of 36F

– Variable snow conditions (icy, dense snow, dry snow, avy chunder)

The crowds were the other big factor.  Today was a bluebird weekend powder day, a ski race day, and a junior big mountain comp day.  The locals were out in force as well.

Yup, the masses were out and hungry

KT line was enormous this morning and it didn’t ever really dissipate.  The Headwall line was large for a long time.  The Granite line bloated and hopping along like an overweight kangaroo.  In general, the lines were long.

Fun was certainly had and there was great snow all over.  It wasn’t huck snow, but it was good snow.  The X-factor was that it could change from powder to ice in one turn.

Le Chamois was going off this afternoon and there was no end in sight as the sun doesn’t actually go down in Squaw Valley this time of year.

The Chimney likely will be open tomorrow.  We gave it a solid once over and it was looking sketchy.

There will be a Chimney showdown tomorrow and someone will walk away…The King of Squaw Valley.  Who will crowned?
