I heard avy bomb after avy bomb all morning and wondered, is the snow actually going to be good today? Sibo, Headwall, and Granite were all closed. Most of the upper mountain was fairly windy, apparently too much so to open these lifts. We were pretty surprised by the snow though. Spent a good portion of the morning lapping Rainbow Bowl which was yielding super creamy wind buff pow. You sunk in about 4 or 5 inches and it was super fast. Not the kind of pow you dream about, but it was a lot more fun then I had expected. After taking a lap down Tower 16 (great up top, scoured at the bottom) the Funi slowed to about 1/3 its normal speed due to the winds. We decided to stick to KT instead of sit on the Funi for a half hour to get to Silverado. (UPDATE: Funi closed early afternoon due to winds)

Check out the wind flag. The winds were blowing through pretty strong today.

KT was where it was at today though. Enchanted Forest was almost untouched in spots, and the snow held up surprisingly well. A short traverse past Enchanted towards Adrenaline and the Sisters yielded completely untouched snow.  After a few laps a few more people noticed and we saw people hiking up towards C2. I’m sure the snow in there was blown in nicely, and should yield some pretty good turns tomorrow. Especially after the snow moving into the valley right now.

The storm looks like it’s starting to move in. The winds blew in some pretty cool looking clouds this afternoon, we noticed this from the KT lift at about 12:30.

This reminded me of the eye of a hurricane.

So, NOAA says 8-12 tonight, with another 3-7 during the day tomorrow. What goes? Probably depends on what’s going to open? Sibo was closed, so I couldn’t get a shot of the Chimney. But maybe. Rumors have been going around it possibly opening this week, and tomorrow or Thursday might be the day. The Fingers should see a nice coating of snow by morning. C2 should be great skiing, if the winds allow Headwall to open. Guess we’ll have to play it by ear tomorrow, but I’m pretty stoked on a fun day for tomorrow.

The Fingers about 1:30 this afternoon, 3/27
