Squaw Valley finally got the goods and those goods were really, really good.  With snow more akin to Colorado Blower than our usual Sierra Cement and the Squalics were out en mass capitalizing on each and every pillow, bubble, and mushroom.  The snow continues to pile up, with tomorrow set to tee off!

from earlier post on conditions today:

Light snow? In California?? Yeah, that happened.  Today.  In large quantities.  The forecast was calling for a meager 1-2 inches, but with 8-10″ up top and continual snowfall throughout the day, things were more than a bit ripping at Squaw today.

The Hot:

  • Skiers left portion of Granite Chief
  • Skiers right portion of Granite Chief
  • Red Dog Ridge
  • Coloradoesque blower pow

The Not:

  • Flat light
  • VIPs traverse closed
  • Headwall shutdown due to winds
  • Snow so light, you sunk to the bottom!
When was the last time you saw trees with that much snow in em'?

The only issue with today was new snowfall that was almost too blower…with upwards of a foot of new snow by the end of the day, you were still bumping along the old bed surface finding some unpleasant moguls at times.  Of course that is unless you were on Granite, where things were deep just about every where and simply ripping!

People were a bit worked from all th pow skiing...
