The storm of the year has started to kick into gear. As I sit here typing, snowflakes the size of quarters appear to be falling outside the window. As the temperatures drop throughout the day into evening, we should have some pretty epic skiing tomorrow on what is open. As for today, well I’ll let the video speak for itself.

At 9am, the skiing was good on Rad Dog. surprisingly so… turns through the trees underneath Heidi’s rock were super fun and since nobody was out, fairly untracked. As the day progressed, the skiing didn’t. Two runs up the Funitel trying to catch either Sibo or even Gold Coast to Shirley went by the wayside. Nothing on the upper mountain opened today, and a few traverses off of Mountain Run yielded nothing but whiteout turns. A sense of vertigo set in a few times as we couldn’t tell if we were on top of a cliff, or even where the snow met the horizon.

Rain puddles under the Funi.

All in all, I was pretty glad I made it out today. Better than sitting on the couch, right? Granted the skiing wasn’t amazing, but it’s going to be this weekend and it was nice to get stoked out. The upper mountain has gotten a lottttt of snow. Once upper mountain opens, the skiing is going to be all time. Lets hope it’s sooner, rather then later. With the temperatures dropping tonight and the heavy band of moisture coming in, we should see some pretty sick conditions this weekend and into the beginning of next week.

Waiting in line for East Broadway, wow!

SQUAW CONDITIONS TODAY:

– 38” storm total, with 10″ in the past 24 hours on the upper mountain

– No upper mountain lifts operating

– Blowing snow, whiteout vertigo conditions at times

– The lower mountain had a fairly large slide take out Mountain Run underneath Chute 75. Looked like a traffic jam as we approached it with ski patrol and skiers/snowboarders everywhere trying to navigate across.

-KT-22 never opened today = 4 trenching avalanches to the ground

Red Dog loading zone, lots of water.
