The only snow in the country today and Thursday is over Colorado and New Mexico besides off the Great Lakes. Only a few inches should fall in CO with the most down near Telluride, and maybe 6-10 inches down near Taos, NM. There hasn’t been that much snow this past week in the Rockies compared to the previous weeks, and for the Southern half there doesn’t look to be that much in the upcoming week.
Here is the snowfall forecast through Thursday showing the light amounts of snow in Colorado and New Mexico.
Storms will start to impact the Pacific NW and Northern CA this weekend as high pressure builds in over the Rockies keeping things dry. As the storms start to Pound the West Coast into next week they will move East towards the Rockies. Right now the exact storm track is still in question but it looks like the storms will come down as far South as Idaho and Wyoming for the first half of next week. Maybe into far Northern Utah.
The first system will move through on Tuesday bringing snow to Wyoming and the Jackson Hole area. Current forecast models show several inches into Idaho and Western Wyoming but not feet unless you are in far Northern Idaho. Here is the snowfall forecast from the GFS through next Wednesday.
The second half of next week and into the following weekend it looks as if the storm track may shift further South. A stronger storm coming into the West coast around next Thursday and then into the Rockies could come far enough South to bring snow to Colorado and Utah by next Friday.
Hopefully we will see some bigger storms later in the month, but the long-range climate models show a large ridge over the Central and Eastern parts of the U.S. The storms coming into the West coast will be pushed North as the hit the backside of the ridge which may keep the biggest snows in the Northern half of the Rockies for now. If the ridge is a bit further East it could be a different story. BA
