Unofficial is sad to report that Telluride local Rob Liberman died yesterday in a tragic avalanche while guiding in Haines, Alaska. Rob guided with Alaska Heliskiing and was leading a group of six people near Takhin Ridge north of Haines. A second unnamed member of the ski group was also buried, but pulled from the slide and transported to Seattle for medical care. This was the first avalanche fatality in Alaska of the season.

Rob was a much loved member of the Telluride community and he will be missed deeply. He was 35 years old and lived most of the year in Telluride skiing, biking, and enjoying the mountains when not guiding in AK. Our deepest condolences go out to Rob’s family and friends here in Telluride, back home in New York, and up north in Alaska.

Along with guiding in Haines, Rob worked for DPS skis where he was their greatest spokesman, constantly praising and promoting the brand.

RIP Rob, you will be missed by many…
