Things have been quieter this week especially across the Northern Rockies thanks to the ridge that has been sitting over the West. Most resorts through the Rockies have not broken the 200 mark yet so we will work on that several inches over the next week and maybe a foot or two for Colorado.
There is snow falling tonight into Thursday across Colorado that could drop 3-6 inches on the resorts.
That is followed by some light snow on Friday from a weak system pushing through Northern Idaho and into Montana. By the weekend the pattern begins to shift with the ridge over the West shifting East and a ridge building off the West coast. That will setup a more active and progressive pattern for next week.
This pattern will not produce big storms but it will bring several inches with each system to areas that have gotten lesser amounts of snow across Utah and Colorado. A weak system will push into the West coast on Saturday and will bring light snow into Utah and Colorado on Sunday. Right now it looks like 3-6 inches for Utah and Colorado.
A cold trough drops into the West the beginning of next week as another storm pushes into the West Coast on Monday. That will bring more snow to the Rockies for Tuesday. Snowfall forecasts more than 5 days out can fluctuate a lot but this one looks a little stronger with 6-9 inch amounts from Utah across to Colorado. We may see 3-6 inch amounts up to Jackson Hole as well which would push them over the 200 inch mark.
There’s another storm that will push into the West coast next Wednesday bringing more snow on Thursday. The forecast models disagree a little on how far North the storm will come in but light snows should bring several more inches from Idaho down to Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado.
Here is the total snowfall forecast from the GFS model through next week. Total snowfall for Utah and Colorado over the next 8 days should be in the 1-2 foot range.
