Whistler will miss you.

A sad day indeed, and unfortunately one we have had to go through too many times. For those of us that live, work and play in the mountain environment, we understand the risks that come with what we do, but it never softens the blow to lose someone we respect and admire.

And when the person that slips away is close to you, the pain stays forever. But take solace in the fact that our memories of those we lost in the mountains allows both them, and ourselves, to live on. I can only hope that we stay inspired and keep striving to be more present, more in love and more passionate about everything we do, whether that’s taking a walk with your husband, shredding pow with your friends or leading that tough climb for the first time.

Regardless of what you do and where you go today, take a moment to think of those that lived their lives with intention. Think of those who, before dying, would have said they were exactly where they wanted to be. Can you say that?

I hope so.

You are not worthy of writing an obituary. Especially for such an incredible skier and lovely person as sarah. RIP

Tell me joe skier, how do I ‘be more present?’
What does, ‘an inspiration to what most of us only ever dream of being’ mean?
And what does that first image represent exactly?

first off, wish a douche like you was less present

second, she was an insiprational for many things, and was often able to find something positive in a shitty situation “something you can obviously dream of being”

and third, the first image are prayer flags looking up at Mt Everest.
From Wikipedia “Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all.
By hanging flags in high places the Lung ta will carry the blessings depicted on the flags to all beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air is purified and sanctified by the Mantras.
The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life’s changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle.”

So instead a being a jack ass, just shut the fuck up and show some respect.

Dude, thats all you could muster for obituary. What were you smoking? Unofficial- you should get more adult bloggers who can express themselves.

RIP Sarah, you were an icon, a pioneer, and inspiration to many. The ski world is smaller without you.

    • not the time or place.......

“RIP Sarah, you were an icon, a pioneer, and inspiration to many. The ski world is smaller without you.”

Now that was profound…. Unofficial should hire YOU.

unofficials quality, across the board not just this article, is going down. Come on dudes, this aint rocket science. This site was ripping, but the past few months I have been on it is more common to find a mediocre quality article than a something with quality depth that used to show up. Time for an overhaul imo

Sad day indeed. Although I did not know Sarah Burke personally, it is always inspiring to watch someone follow their passions and dominate their sport.

Shame on those of you hating on this article. You are all missing the point. Our sport lost a pioneer today, a husband lost his wife, and a family lost their daughter.

All the best to those that know and love Sarah Burke.
