It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Sarah Burke today. A legend in the freeski community, she was an inspiration to what most of us only ever dream of being.

Whistler will miss you.

A sad day indeed, and unfortunately one we have had to go through too many times. For those of us that live, work and play in the mountain environment, we understand the risks that come with what we do, but it never softens the blow to lose someone we respect and admire.

And when the person that slips away is close to you, the pain stays forever. But take solace in the fact that our memories of those we lost in the mountains allows both them, and ourselves, to live on. I can only hope that we stay inspired and keep striving to be more present, more in love and more passionate about everything we do, whether that’s taking a walk with your husband, shredding pow with your friends or leading that tough climb for the first time.

Regardless of what you do and where you go today, take a moment to think of those that lived their lives with intention. Think of those who, before dying, would have said they were exactly where they wanted to be. Can you say that?

I hope so.
