NOAA Forecast for Palmyra Peak
NOAA Forecast for Palmyra Peak

Time to break out your boards (If you haven’t already!) The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Telluride and the San Juan Mountains from Wednesday through Saturday. The heaviest snow should be Wednesday night to Friday morning with up to a foot expected over 9,000 ft. The snow level could drop as low as 6,000 ft with less accumulation expected at these levels.

This is exciting news and evidence that winter is fast approaching but unfortunately could wreak havoc on our snow pack. Considering there is already snow on our peaks, additional snow now could lead to some nasty rot layers as the season progresses. Time will tell…
