Pool skating is just plain rowdy. Check out photos of Santa Cruz local rippers Brian and Russel as they shred apart this temporarily abandoned pool.

Notice the dark grey patches? And that the surface looks reasonably clear? They took the time to clean the pool and are keeping it in the best shape possible, so they can keep riding it as long as possible. Pool skating is a pretty renegade activity. Often, you’re trespassing on property where for some reason a pool, with the right shape and made of the right materials, has been abandoned. Check out this link for an really interesting story on how pool skating blew up in the Oakland Hills after the fires in 1991.

You’ll hear a little more about the mentality of pool skaters, as well as what goes into skating a pool like prep time, finding the pool, keeping it low-key, etc.  in this rootsy Tony Alva clip. Tony is a legend. He’s not only one of the original Z-boys, he’s also considered one of the most influential skaters of all-time.

Back to Brian and Russel, these guys SENT this secret Santa Cruz pool this weekend! It was an amazing thing to watch. Even after all the waves they had surfed the past several days, with a big south swell pumping, they still had it in them to rip the pool apart. Enjoy the photos!
