Golden Gate Park was a scene on Friday. Thousands upon thousands of people showed up for 10 hours of non-stop music, good libations, and one helluva party. Saturday’s festivities are already underway, and concert-goers are really talking up the lineup for Sunday. Here’s some photos from Friday to give you a look at what’s happening in Golden Gate Park this weekend.

If you feel like bypassing the annoying issue of driving and finding a place to park, why not ride a bike? You definitely won’t be the only one.

Golden Gate Park is as vibrant as ever with all the activity of the festival going on. Here’s a shot of one of the many decorated walkways that will guide you to one of the several stages of music.

I don’t have an up-to-date number for how many people actually showed up yesterday, but all I can say is there were A LOT of people partying in Golden Gate Park yesterday.

Eventually you’ll want to find the windmill’s,

because they will help lead you to the main stage.

That is, if you don’t stumble across something else cool along the way, which is pretty much a guarantee. Outside Lands is full of interesting distractions like the DJ Dome,

the many unique vendors,

and of course all the amazing options for food and drink (although I will say the beer selection could use some work to bring it up to par with the food and wine offerings).

There’s even a sports bar if you’re feeling like plugging out of the music/artsy vibe for a while.

Sometimes the raddest things about a festival like this are the random acts that cross your path when you’re least expecting them. Outside Lands has this vibe captured in spades, with cool bands playing on small secret  stages that you just have to be walking past at the right time to catch,

or the impromptu marching band that just happens to be ragging past you on your walk to the main stage, picking up a long line of stray fans trailing them as they play across the festival grounds.

A treat like the best frozen yogurt you’ll ever have is also a nice little something to add to the day.

Overall, people seemed to be stoked and having a really good time on all fronts Friday. I have no doubt that will continue through Saturday and Sunday’s festivites as well. Of particular note on Friday was a solid set played my MGMT on the main stage, which really seemed to get the females in the crowd fired up!

Phish, who held the largest section of time compared to any band playing over the course of the three-day festival, also played well. To the seasoned listener, the set was pretty expected from the standpoint of Phish playing to more mass audience rather than their own. However, their playing was tight, there were a few standout moments, and regardless, people seemed to be thouroughly enjoying themselves. Isn’t that the point of  going to a music festival anyway?
