snow in Tahoe in June

snow in Tahoe in JuneA slight dusting of snow on the top of Headwall at Squaw Valley today, June 29th, 2011.

We were all hoping that this storm would be more like the June 5th and 6th storm seen in the video below.

Unfortunately, it didn’t really snow below 9,000 feet. The original winter storm advisory was for snow down to 7,000 feet and for up to 5 inches.  That woulda made for some good skiing.  A light dusting of snow only above about 8,500 feet…not so much.  Still kinda cool to get snow in late June, tho.

Big Powder at Alpine Meadows on June 6th, 2011.

So, here I am telling you about how it didn’t snow.  Lame.  It really woulda been a trip to have photos of guys skiing pow in Tahoe in late late June.  Oh well.

The weather in Tahoe right now from a trained weather expert:

The heavy wind from yesterday died off as last night’s system moved into the Tahoe area bringing heavy rain and lower temps. The sun is back out this morning but temps are noticeably cooler.

There you have it.  The warm weather returns this weekend and we are looking at highs in the 80s and lows in the 40s for the weekend.
