For Sale: $1,400,000

This contemporary home located in Breckenridge, CO was just reduced by $400K dropping the list price to $1.4 million. Few are surprised that this “modern home” has not been snatched up since concrete and glass does not convey the warm ski lodge feel that most people associate with a ski cabin.

The interior space is pretty sweet, but the skin of this building is totally out of place there.

It’s not out of place if the intent of the design intends to contrast its surroundings. It can be worse when the building attempts to look “like” its surroundings with a so called “cabin” or lodge fee just because that is what everyone is used to. If you use logs or lumber construct a building doesn’t mean your building looks like a tree. Nor does it mean that it is somehow hidden amongst its surroundings. The buildings people know as a cozy lodge(s) originally looked like that because back in the day those were the materials available on site to build with. Do the same thing today and that cozy lodge is not going to necessarily be built from locally made materials not matter how much it looks like it. It’ll probably be built by some developer in the cheapest way possible. Buildings are Man Made, get used to it. I’ll bet that this home uses less energy than a similarly sized traditional home in the same location.

totally agree with beefcake here. Fuck cabin looking “old timey” houses everyone thinks you have to have this look just because you are in the mountains. Nope, not anymore. You can have your house look any way you want.
Martis Camp in Truckee is the best example of new and old architecture living side by side in harmony.

It’s the “no babies” stabbing cabin…why? Cuz it’s STERILE! Concrete just doesn’t say “honey do me on the stairs.”

We spent a butt load of cash on lift tickets a few years back at Brek. Skied for 2 hours and headed to the bar at 11 because the mt was so damn flat and ridiculous. We sulked and had a 10 dollar beer, skied the rest of the trip at Abasin
